Enhanced Campus IT Facilities and Services
There were major IT facilities enhancements in Campus during the semester break. Details can be found at this page.

Further changes are summarised by Colin Lai, Head of CSC in this page.

We most appreciate the contribution of Angela Cheater and her students (School of Business) to the Learning with IT section of this month and we would like to thank them for sharing this work with us.

Teaching with IT

OER Commons
Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education ISKME
"Open Education Resources (OER) are teaching and learning materials that are freely available online for everyone to use, whether you are an instructor, student, or self-learner". OER Commons includes materials from universities participating in OpenCourseWare initiatives in these broad areas: Arts, Business, Humanities, Mathematics and Statistics, Science and Technology and Social Sciences. "It uses Web 2.0 features (tags, ratings, comments, reviews, and social networking) to create an online experience that engages educators in sharing their best teaching and learning practices."

MS Word Modules
Internet4Classrooms
These modules cover several topics on working with Word, such as inserting and editing images, formatting text, and using keyboard shortcuts. A series of the modules is for basic users and another series, “Beyond the Basics with MS Word”, aims to more experienced users, covering hyperlinks creation, the mail merge function and Word files conversion to Powerpoint.

ProProfs QuizSchool
ProProfs Quiz School is a free tool for creating online quizzes and practice tests for their students. "The Quiz School provides easy access for students and educators, without the hassle of downloading bulky software. In addition to the ability to create custom quizzes, the feature also offers one of the largest collections of freely available online quizzes."

Easy Test Maker
Institute for Media and Communications Management, University of St.Gallen, Switzerland
Easy Test Maker is a free online interface for generating tests. It allows creating multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, matching, short answer and true and false questions on the same test. "You can also insert instructions and divide your test into multiple sections".

Learning with IT
An exemplary teamwork (in video) of a group of students from the School of Business
Angela Cheater, School of Business
... but we enjoyed it - it was fun, they said, all 18 eyes sparkling ...
"The Communication 100 class was required to do a group project worth 15% of their final mark for the course. The project was intended to test how well students had understood various aspects of communication presented in the course, and whether they could put the theory they had learned into practice in a short public presentation. Each group had a maximum of 20 minutes to give their presentation and answer questions about it from their audience. Traditionally, these have been "oral presentations", using a mixture of PowerPoint and role play."

Basic Mathmatics
Student Learning Assistance Center, San Antonio College
This site offers a set of online presentations and exercises that review topics such as Math, Algebra, Geometry and Cauculus.
