How do I log in to Blackboard CE6 for the first time?
To log into CE 6, go to http://elearning.ipm.edu.mo/ and click on the Log In button.
On the login page, use your NetID as the user name and your NetPassword (the same password you use for the email account). After log in, you will see the My Blackboard page with your CE 6 courses.  Click on a course link to enter a course.

What's the difference between courses and sections?
In Blackboard CE8, a course may contain several sections and the building process (content creation) is done at the Section Level. If you are teaching the same subject to different classes, you may build 1 section first and then create all the other sections based on the first one, without duplicating the building process.

I forgot my password.  What should I do?
Your Blackboard user name and password are the same as the email account. So, please contact CSC to reset your password. You may call the helpdesk at ext. 152 or drop by the helpdesk counter at Room 201.

How can I get Blackboard courses for my classes?

You may send an email to elearning@ipm.edu.mo with the following information:

- Your Name
- Your School
- Your Contact Phone Number
- Your email address
- The course code and the full name of the course
- When you expect to offer this course online to students (e.g. semester 1, 2008/2009)
- Similar details about anyone else who will share the course design process

Can I reuse a course from a previous academic year/semester?
If you want to reuse a previous course, please send an email to elearning@ipm.edu.mo with the updated information (as mentioned in the answer above). Then, CSC will create a new section of the course based on the previous section.

How do I add or remove a tool in CE 8?

To add or remove tools in your course, please follow these steps:

In the Build or in the Teach tabs, click Manage Course and then Tools. To add a tool to your course, check the box next to the toll name and click the Save button at the bottom.

To remove a tool from your course, uncheck the box and click the Save button at the bottom.

Can I forward the mail messages received within Blackboard to an external email account?

How do I get students in my Blackboard course without enrolling them manually?

First, you will need to enable the self-registration mode in your course. You may disable it when all your students enroll in the course.

Go to "Manage Course", select "Settings" and click in "User Manager" under "Administration". Set "Allow users to register themselves as a Student in a section *" to "True" and click in "Save Values".

Then, ask the students to self-register in your course. After their registration, follow the same steps and set "Allow users to register themselves as a Student in a section *" to "False" and click in "Save Values".

How do I manually enroll students in my Blackboard course?

To enroll students ina Blackboard course, first, they must be added to Blackboard users database. After the students are in the database, you may enroll them in the corresponding section.

1. Click the "Teach" tab
2. Under "Instructor Tools"(on the left menu), click the "Grade Book".
3. In the Grade Book, click "Enroll Members"
4. In the following page, type the user name of the student in the "User name" field and select "Student" in "Assign roles"
5. Click "Enroll"
6. Continue to follow steps 1 to 5 until all students are added and click "Save".

Why some tools /features in CE8 do not work?

Some features in CE6 require the use of pop-up windows. Please check if the settings in your browser are blocking pop-ups. If yes, you will need to disable that function when using Blackboard CE6 or include the CE6 address in your "safe" list".

You may also check if your browser is correctly configured. Please click the "Check Browser" button in the login page.

When trying to upload files to Blackboard, "My computer" icon doesn't display and I can not browse my PC. What should I do?

It could be a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) issue.

Try to run the browser tune-up first. Please refer to http://www2.blackboard.com/tuneup/ for instructions.

You might also try clearing the Java and Internet Cache.
PC Users:
To clear the Java Cache, go to the Windows Control Panel and select the Java icon. There's an option to clear temporary internet files.

Mac Users:
Navigate to the Java folder from your hard drive: HD > Applications > Utilities > Java.
Open the Java Preferences application.
Click on the General tab.
Click the Delete Files button (under the Temporary Internet Files section).
