New Wireless Network Infrastructure/Introducing 802.1x (WPA) Authentication
  Notice Number: 03/2009

CSC is going to deploy a modern controller-based wireless network and to migrate the existing “fat” access points to “thin” access points on Jan. 19, 2009 (Sunday). Approximately 65 “fat” access points in main campus will be replaced by “thin” access points. Along with the hardware replacement and migration, we will be introducing the new secure 802.1x (WPA) authentication to our users.

The following are the highlights of the new features:

. greater wireless coverage and seamless wireless client roaming
. 802.1x (WPA) authentication provides secure wireless connection. All data traffic will be encrypted between the client device and the wireless network
. dynamic VLAN, Admin users and Students will access different VLAN and gain different access right on MPI network resource when using the 802.1x (WPA) authentication
. flexible access method, users can choose the easy-to-use web-based authentication or the secure 802.1x (WPA) authentication
. administrators can centrally manage and monitor all wireless devices and connections

CSC will replace the old wireless network system on Jan 18, 2009. Should there be any queries, please contact Kenny Io (Tel. 85996-248), Voyage Io (Tel. 85996-175) or send email to for further information. The detailed information on the new wireless network and step-by-step installation guide can be found here.
