  Campus Network Security Enhancement

In order to strengthen campus network security and to minimise the chances of computer viruses spreading within campus, the Computer Service Centre (CSC) will enforce a higher level of network security policy in the HQ campus network starting from Mar. 26, 2006 (Sunday)

New Security Policy: No Direct Communications Between Workstations

  • Computer labs, classrooms and wireless network will not be able to access the staff network. Student computer can only access to registered servers for student usage (i.e. Novell, Web & Email servers) and the Internet. Staff may contact the Centre one day in advance for system demonstration that would need to connect from the student network to the staff network.
  • Block direct access from one staff computer to another.  Staff computers can only access to registered computer servers (i.e. staff information systems, Novell, Web & Mail servers) and the Internet.
  Computer Servers Registration Application
For non-CSC managed computer servers maintained by instructors or instructor led student projects, concerned instructor(s) must submit an application to CSC to register your server before direct connection will be allowed from other computers on the network.  The computer server registration application form (FORM-CSC-305 Computer Server Registration) can be downloaded from the CSC web site (http://csc.ipm.edu.mo/forms).
Should you have any questions regarding the new network security policies, please feel free to contact Voyage Io (email: voyageio@ipm.edu.mo Tel. 5996175) or Joey Fong (email: fkm@ipm.edu.mo Tel. 5996152). Thanks for your kind attention and cooperation in advance.
